I think now more than ever entrepreneurship is vital to the Irish economy, if everyone coming into college invented a job we’d have a very prosperous economy, the Entrepreneurial and Social society aims to aid students in doing this. The society also gives us the opportunity to meet influential entrepreneurs and people and to learn from their experiences, this is valuable information to take into your own business ventures in the future. I believe the society also gives you the opportunity to develop your interpersonal skills, to meet new people which is something that’s very important to me and develop the skills needed to organise events on and cater for people needs.

Where do you want to be in 10 years?
I see it as a way to help expand my professional network, learning new things from the workshops we run and the entrepreneurs we get in to speak. It is also a way to meet new people and make new friends and to enjoy the social events held throughout the year.

Graduated from my degree and hopefully having travelled some of the world, I would hope to have a good job and possibly considering opening up my own business soon.

What does this society mean to you?
I love how the society appeals to students from all faculties, bringing them together to meet some of the most influential and successful people in the country and learning from their experience. Being involved in a society is a unique college experience, and it’s given me the opportunity to take part in things I didn’t even know I was interested in.

Where do you want to be in 10 years?
In 5 years time, I hope to be very close to developing all the skills necessary to set out and achieve the ultimate goal of starting my own business.

E&S has given me experience and exposure to the business world, from brainstorming and promotion, to planning and fundraising. The skills and opportunities the society has provided willbe invaluable in our future careers. It is the people you meet when getting involved that are the greatest prize in joining E&S and when I think about the society, it is the experiences, whether flyering, discussions in meetings or amazing social events that I will always remember fondly, and it’s because the people I enjoyed them with were a very nice bunch!
David Finn Orde - Deputy PRO
In ten years time I hope to be working in the press office for a political party or be involved in journalism.
What does this society mean to you?
E&S is important to me as it helps young people in college to see how important entrepreneurship is. Without people who are willing to take a leap of faith we wouldn’t have seen some of the most successful people in business.

To me E&S is a society that has presented me with experiences and opportunities which have enriched my college experience. The iron stomach, although not the most glamorous, will forever be one of my most prominent college memories and is all thanks to E&S. I would highly recommend everyone to take part in it! Through E&S I have also learned things that lectures cannot even begin to teach. And of course (here comes the soppy part!) I have gotten to know some of the most amazing people, which I would never have encountered if it wasn’t for the society.

In times like these I believe it is essential for the students to think entrepreneurial. I think the Irish economy can only recover through innovation, if only half the student populace in Irish Universities were to create their own job, then the Irish economy would certainly look considerably healthier! The society brings like minded entrepreneurial students together where ideas are nurtured, the society also host many insightful business men and women throughout the year which positively encourages aspiring students. Personally through the E and S I have met some fantastic people, and had some brilliant opportunities which wouldn’t have been possible without this great society. The E and S society has greatly added to my student experience in UCC and I recommend everyone to get involved!

E&S was the first society I became involved in. It is now my second year on the committee and I hope I can give back as much as I’ve gained by being part of the team.

The E&S society provides a fantastic opportunity to get hands on experience of the business world while also having a great time with really interesting people. The experience gained from organising large events from start to finish and seeing successful results time after time is thoroughly rewarding. Whether it be visits from top-class successful business leaders or throwing the largest student events on campus the E&S society really can’t be beaten. I have gained invaluable experience and made close friendships during my time in the E&S and cannot recommend the society highly enough..

E&S is one of the best societies to be part of in UCC. You get the best of both worlds, a great social side and an interesting educational side. Providing great experience not only for now but for the future.

To me E and S means two things, a society that organises fun events both social and educational, but also somewhere where there will be a bit of a laugh had and you won’t get given out to for showing up after one pint too many.
